The story behind this over-saturated color photograph is a mystery and an anomaly in Costain's body of work. It may have been created to showcase his expertise with the tri-color carbro process, but it wasn't used to publicize actor “Dickie Simon” - who, according to an inscription on the print, was a cast member of the radio show Bringing Up Father. That program wasn't broadcast until 1941. And while there's no online record of an actor named "Dickie Simon," there are plenty of entries for a “Simon Dickie.”
