Gjon Mili (1904-1984,) a popular Life Magazine photographer, worked closely with Harold Edgerton (1903-1990) at MIT in the development of the strobe light.  The goal of their endeavor was to capture a still image of an object or figure in motion.  This tri-color carbro photograph appears to be test shot as Mili's work is noted for his extravagant compositions.
