This view of Manhattan’s East River skyline is was photographed by the great architectural photographer Samuel Gottscho (1875-1971.)  The print was a personal gift from Gottscho to Dorothy C. Miller, the first curator of photography at the newly founded Museum of Modern Art, with the inscription:  “I have never ceased to wonder at the marvel of photography as it freezes a split-second for eternity, the glorification of industry.”
