Grancel Fitz may have been one of the most successful commercial photographers of the 1930’s and 40’s. His style careened from editorial narrative to abstract composition to surrealism, sometimes all in the same photograph. Most of his work was created for advertisements. As moving as this image is, it is also comical and makes one wonder about the nature of the product promoted by the photograph.
