Issue No. 1: Vintage Photography

The pictures shown here are vintage photographic prints. They represent a cross-section of more than five hundred photos collected over the last ten years with some basic aims: to discover a visually exciting photograph, to explore that photograph's provenance, and to share what has been learned about the photo on this website.

The quality of a vintage photograph may often be measured by its fidelity to the culture and technology current at the time it was printed. Most of the photos in this collection span the years 1920–1965, a period sometimes referred to as a “golden age” of photography for the great number of celebrated photographs and photographers linked with events of that era.
