Issue No. 6: INTERIORS, THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF
This group of pictures features eighteen vintage photographs of interiors dating from 1935 through 1993. Some of the photos were created for portfolios promoting the work of an architect or designer. Others are editorial photographs documenting a story or event that happened to occur in a place with a noteworthy or interesting interior.
Five of the interiors were sets created in a studio to advertise a product. One of the products is clearly an automobile; the others are harder to determine because the product being advertised may be one of the materials from which the interior was constructed.
The Elliot Erwitt photo of the lobby of the Fontainbleau Hotel in Miami and the Hiroshi Sugimoto photo of the interior of the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood are generally acknowledged as fine art photography.
All were chosen by selectedpictures.com for their strength as individual photographs and for the way they relate to each other visually, in sequence and as a group, in keeping with our stated aim for this website.
