No. 2

Here's a list of photographer Mickey Pallas' (1916-1997) favorite subjects:

  1. Chicago
  2. Suburban Life in Chicago
  3. Public Demonstrations Against Social Injustice in Chicago
  4. Burlesque Performers in Chicago
  5. Burlesque Performers in Drag in Chicago
  6. An Equal Opportunity Assortment of Civic Activists in Chicago
  7. Professional Sports in Chicago
  8. Professional Athletes in Chicago
  9. The 1959 Buick

Pallas is often quoted as saying: "I never took a picture I wasn't paid for." and in 1958 he was paid by a local Buick dealer to photograph fresh 1959 Buicks all over Chicago. Though these photos have a deadpan quality, they are also clever and and fun.

Pallas was a co-founder of The Center for Creative Photography in Tuscon, Arizona and Gamma Labs (now Gamma Legends*) photo agency in Chicago.

*Gamma Legends is one of three agencies owning the rights to the first photo in this issue,1958 Simca Aronde, photographed by Robert Doisenau.
