No. 11
Slava Stochl (1913-1990) was well known for his photographs, primarily of fish and other wildlife, illustrating a series of children's books. With international distribution, "Barnyard Adventures" may be his most popular title. Stochl's figurative work includes studies of zookeepers, fisherman, and day laborers like the Telefonista seen here.
He devoted his life to improving techniques of underwater photography, but as an active press photographer his subjects ranged from the battles in Czechoslovakia during the World War II to postwar images of weddings and funerals
All his photographs are beautifully lit and composed. Stochl was greatly admired as a photographer's photographer.
