Inscribed: “Self-portrait at the Palacha Country Club Pool on the St. John River, Florida.”

Costain was a man with a clear sense of his eccentric yet immaculate personal style.  Later portraits would focus on his jaunty waxed mustache, at least 7 inches across and sharply pointed on either side.
