From the 1890’s until his death in1927, Eugene Atget churned out nearly 10,000 photographs that he considered visual “documents” of Parisian landmarks. He saw himself as a purveyor of his own work, selling prints to anyone who might want a permanent record of a city that was quickly disappearing.
These photos, once collected as memorabilia, are now considered essential to the history of modern photography.
