Gregory Crewdson (b.1962) creates cinematic images in which figures appear to be experiencing some kind of personal crisis, alone and isolated. His more recent photographs are similar but in color. This relatively quiet black-and-white photo is from his series "Hover" (1997 -1998.) Using a crane it was shot from a steep overhead angle, intensifying the effect of detachment.
